Scott Grainger
09/06/1971- 13/02/2022
MSc BSc (Hons) CSci CChem MRSC FRSPH
Scott was our founding assessor. In addition to his professional qualifications and expertise, he was a much loved and well known part of the soap & cosmetic making community.
Scott's interest in natural cosmetics began visiting craft fairs in the 90s where he was inspired by the variety and quality of products available. So much so that he launched his own natural cosmetics business which he ran successfully before returning to the "lab" to concentrate on the science.
Devoting much of his time to research and writing safety assessments, he remained a keen natural formulator and avid soap maker. During his career he freely devoted his time to passionately supporting craft and small scale producers via internet forums and Facebook. Scott was one of the only assessors who had actually run a natural cosmetics business, and had personally made all of the categories of cosmetics that we certify with our flexible packages. This meant he had a unique understanding of what craft and small scale producers really need for success. That insight and understanding and Scott's commitment to supporting independent makers remains key to the ethos of our team.
